Heat Stabilisers for Polyamides (Nylon)
Hawks Chemical offer a range of inorganic compounds that are used to enhance the performance and properties of polyamides and other polymers to improve heat stability. This gives protection from deterioration due to thermal oxidation, which improves the durability of the polymer in high temperature applications.
General Applications
Heat stabilisation of Polyamides in:
- Fibre and tyre cord manufacturing processes.
- Moulding processes
- Extrusion processes
Product Range
These compounds are in the form of inorganic bromide / iodide blends in powder or pellet form using a stearate based or wax binder.
Typical formulations include blends of Copper Bromide, Copper Iodide, Potassium Iodide, Potassium Bromide, for example;
- KBr / CuI powder blends
- KBr / CuI / Stearate powder blends
- KBr / CuI / Stearate pellets
- KI / CuI powder blends
- KI / CuI / Stearate powder blends
- KI / CuI / Stearate pellets
The products can form all or part of the components necessary for high temperature stabilisation of polyamide.
Customer specific formulations and physical forms can be provided.
Benefits of use
- The pellet form is free flowing giving even distribution during addition to the polymer, and creating a cleaner, dust free environment.
- These compounds are readily dispersible into the polymer when using standard extrusion, moulding and compounding techniques.
- Other than good practice in the handling of chemicals and powders no special safety measures are required.
